Lions publicity officer and real estate agent John Murray explained that Collis just happened to be holidaying in Narooma in the past week and called him to book a holiday house.
So when Murray realised who it was making the booking, he suggested Collis come down to the match on Saturday to watch the Lions play against Pambula at Bill Smyth Oval.
Murray said Collis mixed with a few local Narooma boys after the game and said how much enjoyed watching the local Lions play especially big Jordon Lang - who reminded Gordon a bit of himself in the bygone era.
Lang happened to have a very good game against Pambula and mum Janine Ker noted that Collis wore the number 17 for Carlton, which happens to be the same number Lang wears for Narooma.
Collis must have developed a bit of an affinity with the Lions club as he also attended training this week.
Speaking of AFL royalty, Narooma has also had numerous visits from former Essendon and GWS coach Kevin Sheedy, who has family in the area.
Collis meanwhile played 95 games for Carlton as centre half-back through seven seasons from 1961-’67, and was one of only four defenders (preceding Ross Glendinning, Brad Hardie and Gavin Wanganeen) to have won the Brownlow award in the past 50 years, according to the Carlton Football Club website.
