In a show of depth and strength in all grades the Narooma Devils Rugby League teams scored some big wins over the Batemans Bay Tigers last Saturday at Smyth Oval. The Tigers have been struggling of late but turned up with good numbers in all grades. They never stopped trying but could not hold the rampaging Devils teams.

Narooma She-Devils 46 Batemans Bay Tigers 0
Once again the Narooma League tag girls were too fast and enthusiastic for their opposition. Three Lilly Bennett tries in the first ten minutes left the Tigers shell-shocked and the attack continued relentlessly.
Tries to Tayla Butcher, Tailem Brown and Kira Campbell and another two to Lilly (that’s five for the day) and seven out of eight conversions from Jaimie-Anne Wright saw the final score reach 46-0. The Bay girls tried hard and improved their defence as the game went on.
Best and fairest players were Tayla Butcher, Janaija Parsons and Finn Dibden in an all round good performance. The team’s second win of the day, this time over the Reserve Grade up at O’Brien’s Tavern was also very memorable!
Narooma Reserve Grade 60 Batemans Bay Tigers 0
The Reserve Grade had a shocker in the above mentioned match at O’Brien’s, but luckily they had a blinder earlier in the day when they defeated Bay Tigers 60-0 in a shortened game.
The team showed just what they can do with an amazing display of attacking football scoring ten tries, every one of them, ten out of ten, converted by halfback Ryan Norris. What an amazing effort.
Karn Mikolic, Ryan Norris, Anthony Thomas and Ninnum Parsons each scored two tries with James Streater, and Jared McMillan scoring one each.
Forwards Cameron Bargwanna, Elijah Blair and Milko Cowley led the way with halves Ryan and Ninnum setting up some exciting running football.
Twelve minutes into the second half a serious leg injury to a Bay player required an ambulance to attend the ground. After ten minutes or so the game was abandoned but the good news is that the Bay player was not too seriously hurt.
A bigger score was definitely on the way but the boys were more than happy with their afternoon’s work. Best on the day were Cameron, Ninnum and Ryan while Milko and Beech played strongly. Young Anthony Thomas also showed lots of skills and determination.
A little more training in post-match events needed to avoid another match-up debacle against the league tag girls!
Narooma First Grade 54 Batemans Bay Tigers 6
The Devils First Grade put on a solid display of football to defeat the Bay Tigers. It was a game with lots of action and some outstanding individual efforts but the result was never really in doubt. Despite this, some impressive tries were scored as the Devils kept the scoreboard ticking over.
Our Group 16 leading try scorer Rodrigues Ceasar got back in the groove with three scorching tries, two with the trademark swan dive (9 for the first, 8.5 for the second)! Brendon Harper showed he is coming back to top form with two tries and seven out of ten goals. A top effort!
Chopper Willis. Todd Wright, Todd Ayers, Lance Wright and Riley Hextell also added tries. It was nearly a relief to see the big Bay prop score to open the Bay’s scoring for all grades on the day as the Bay teams all put in big efforts.
Best players on the day were Lance Wright who was virtually unstoppable, along with the most punishing defender on the field, Todd Ayers. Todd Wright played his trademark stunning side-stepping elusive game at five-eighth while young gun Teig Wilton played well above his age and weight. Riley Hextell as usual blitzed them and Gus Wilton and Scott Curry had great games.
Next Sunday, 29th May, the Devils take on the in-form Cooma Stallions with the Ladies League Tag at Noon, the Reserves at 1pm and the Firsts at 2.30pm. Three really tight games of top football are on offer next week! All will be tough games and the results will go a long way towards settling the top four for the semis in all grades.
Come and support your Devils!
