The swimmers on Sunday for the third time out of four swims for 2016 again swam the bar, this time on an outgoing tide, which is actually the most challenging swim for the club as the swimmers have to fight their way out of the outgoing current and then swim parallel to the beach to get out if any rips.
A large contingent of surfers were surprised to have their serenity busted by 28 swimmers of all ages and sizes encroach on their sets.
Joining the swimmers for the first time this year for Swim 4 was River Cottage Australia host Paul West, who finally had a day off from his weekend cooking schools.
The water temperature in the main channel on Sunday was 18 degrees although a quite chilly 7 degrees outside air temp. The swimmers then retired to O’Briens Hotel and the Raw Prawn Bistro for some warming pea and ham soup and maybe a cool ale.

The Narooma Numnutz winter swimmers swam the bar again on Sunday, this time on an incoming tide. There were 29 swimmers and the water was a very warm 21 degrees. This may be the warmest temperature encountered by the swimmers since their records were kept. Records started in 2008, with the previous highest 20.5 degrees. All swimmers welcome every winter Sunday, south end of Bar Beach at 9am.
While the Numnutz experienced record high temps last week, sister club Bermagui Blue Balls headed for the hills to experience their lowest ever temp! Read more
