The basic design and construction of the signs is the same as those being installed at the entrances to Batemans Bay and Moruya. The basic design of each of the signs in each town is the same, featuring a faux-sandstone base with pillars made of structural polymer depicting surf-to-sand images.
A three-dimensional swoosh in Eurobodalla branding colours links the design with a river theme that shows movement and connection.
The Narooma signs feature watermark designs unique to the Narooma district, being a whale tail, lighthouse, golf club tee flag, waves, seagulls, Gulaga Mountain and gum leaves.
The Narooma town sign at the northern entrance is located on the Princes Highway past the EcoTel Motel, while the southern sign is at the intersection of the Old Highway, both where the previous town entry signs stood.
The 4m-by-2.5m signs are “retro-reflective”, so at night the light will bounce off the signs, which also have a special vandal-proof coating.
The unique watermarks for Narooma were devised based on feedback from a previous Narooma Chamber of Commerce and representative Adrian Fisse was on hand for the sign unveiling on Thursday.
“I think it’s fantastic and something we can be proud of and you definitely can’t miss it,” Mr Fisse said.
Mayor Lindsday Brown and Clr Neil Burnside were also present for the unveiling and they noted the new signs for Narooma looked great and the collaborative process with the three business chambers in each town had been terrific.
“I think it’s fantastic. I think its a great collaboration between council and the chamber of commerces. Importantly our community chamber has made a contribution and everything here is important to Narooma. It’s a real commitment to community and something we can be very proud of and a statement for people coming to Narooma that you’ve arrived in Narooma.”
Cr Brown said he promised the Eurobodalla business community the new town signs when he was elected.
