Dr Hendy was joined by Eurobodalla mayor Lindsay Brown and councillor Neil Burnside to announce this commitment when he visited the Narooma pool on Thursday.
“This new funding builds on the Turnbull Liberal team’s plan for jobs, growth and better infrastructure on the Far South Coast,” Dr Hendy said. “Upgrading the Narooma pool will provide much needed works for asbestos roof removal and replacement works, refurbishing the entry, and providing an accessible children’s water play area. These works will deliver an improved local recreational and tourism facility, part of our jobs and growth plan for Narooma.”
Eurobodalla mayor Lindsay Brown said the project would build on the council’s existing investment in the pool.
“Upgrading the pool and building an accessible water play area will be a big win for Narooma, providing a better recreational and tourism facility,” clr Brown said. “This will build on the existing plant and facility upgrade at the pool.”
Council has already allocated $230,000 toward replacing the roof, updating the entry area and building a new kids water play area.
Cr Brown said this funding if forthcoming would boost the plans, which were expected to be complete in 2017 with the roof being the main priority.
Long-time Narooma pool supporter and user Pat Eaton was also present on Thursday and welcomed the funding promise. She said the next step would be a much-needed upgrade of the showers.
Dr Hendy was also met at the pool by Mystery Bay residents concerned about the downgrade of NBN plans to satellite service, instead of fibre or fixed wireless.
Labor candidate for Eden-Monaro Mike Kelly meanwhile was due to visit Narooma today for a meet-and-greet at the Narooma CWA branch from 12noon to 1.30pm.
Dr Hendy said the pool project would form another important element of the Turnbull Liberal team’s plan for jobs and growth on the Far South Coast.
“I’ve been fighting to deliver for Narooma and the South Coast, and upgrading the Narooma swimming pool is another part of our commitment to the South Coast,” Dr Hendy said. “We’re also upgrading the Eden Port, upgrading the Merimbula Airport, investing over $1 million into upgrading the Princes Highway, building better mobile phone coverage at Central Tilba and Bodalla and making the NBN a reality in Narooma and Dalmeny in 2017.”
