Roads and Maritime’s principal manager for maritime operations south Mike Hammond said the NSW Government invested a total of $760,000 on two new 8.5-metre vessels procured from Yamba, with the other now operating across Sydney Harbour.
“Boaters will see the new vessel operating across Narooma replacing the existing patrol boat local boating safety officers were using in local waters,” Mr Hammond said.
“This new vessel has a foam collar design which provides safer interaction with customers. It is also larger which improves offshore capability to keep up with increasing recreational and commercial boating activities in the area.
“The vessel is equipped with the latest technology allowing boating safety officers to use high tech thermal imaging during search and rescue operations.
“Narooma’s latest vessel addition also features a robust design to reduce maintenance costs while the low-emission engine is also a lot more environmentally friendly.”
Boating safety officers will continue to carry out on-water safety and compliance patrols on South Coast, alpine, and southern inland waters.
