Warren Snr is set to appear on the television show ‘Love Child’ that airs on the Nine Network on Monday nights at 9pm. He got a role as an extra playing a soldier in the Vietnam conflict.
Anyone closely watching Australian science fiction series ‘Cleverman’ on ABC television may have also noticed Warren’s face in the background of a number of shots.
Warren Snr signed up with an agent in Sydney and has been fortunate to land the two acting gigs already. He is hoping to get more acting work in the near future and is also an accomplished musician releasing his own Hip Hop album ‘Dreamtime’.
Warren Sr took part in the shooting of the Ryan Griffen created series Cleverman in Redfern last year, and had some pretty spontaneous moments on screen.
“We were filming a helicopter scene and the crew told us it was a practice run without any explosion and then set the explosions off on us,” Warren Snr said with a laugh.
“There was supposed to be three of us extras but after the third explosion one of the lads ran off in his own direction. The explosion got the adrenaline running, so we were pretty pumped.”
The story of Cleverman begins in the the very near future, a time where creatures from ancient mythology must live among humans and battle for survival in a world seeking to silence, exploit and destroy them.
Cleverman’s narrative re-imagines stories of the Dreaming in a futuristic, superhero context and deals with Australian issues such as racism, asylum seekers and border protection.
Known for his music, dance and art, Warren Snr has deep reasons for taking his acting roles, he does it to show others that anything is possible if you stay confident and put your mind to it.
“I do the acting for the younger ones here in the community, to show them not to be ashamed,” he said. The young ones need to break the shame factor. That’s what keeps me going.”
Starring Game of Thrones star Iain Glen and Australian actors Deborah Mailman and Tasman Walton, the vibrant Cleverman set was a place Warren Snr felt right at home.
“We met a few of the cast and it was really good running through the explosions and stuff like that,” he said. “Everyone was really down to earth.”
The series was so anticipated it aired in the United States a day before Australia, with the first season was watched by nearly one million Americans and nearly two million Australians. Social media went crazy with hype in the lead up to the series finale and a second series
Warren Snr found his way onto the screen through his agent MCTV in Sydney, who also found him an extras role in the hospital drama series Love Child.
“I’m hoping to write some scripts and I’ve done a few courses,” he said. “I love writing.”
