THE Far South Coast Local Area Command of the NSW Police medal and awards ceremony was held at Narooma Golf Club on Thursday recognising the service and achievements of police employees both current and retired.
Sergeant Stephen Mawson from the Narooma station was presented the new National Police Service Medal for 15 years of diligent and ethical service by State Member Andrew Constance.
Sergeant Mawson joined the NSW Police Force on November 23, 1970 and was first stationed at Police Transport as a cadet.
Over the following 42 years of police service he worked in Ryde, Gladesville, Police Radio and his current station at Narooma.
He has been the recipient of many awards including the NSW Police Medal with 5th clasp and the National Medal with 2nd clasp.
Retired Narooma and Bermagui police officer Senior Constable Greg Bowra received three awards including the 1st Clasp to the National Medal, a Commissioner’s Unit Citation for outstanding service including bravery during the 2005 civil disorder on the Eastern Beaches of Sydney and, finally, a Retired Police Commemorative Pin.
