Firstly well done done to Corey Ilitch who caught and released a great 94cm jewfish on 6lb bream gear in Mummaga Lake on Sunday using light gear and a 70mm Squidgie Wriggler soft plastic lure. Gives the rest of us hope that one day we too might get a nice surprise!

The tuna have proved a little elusive but there have been some good captures. Charter Fish Narooma managed to boat a nice 45kg yellowfin on Sunday on the cube and unfortunately lost a second fish around the 40kg mark. There were also a couple nice albacore, and the odd bluefin around being caught but no big numbers.
Narooma Fishing Charters and skipper John Moore reports that on Saturday morning, he noticed that the water temp had dropped to 14.5c, lowering expectations. After a troll around Montague Island, without success - they spent an hour and a half bottom-bashing for a few mowies, snapper and leatherjackets. Then they got a call that there were birds working to the north.
A quick change to trolling gear started to produce some nice bonito, the water temp had gone up to 15.6c and the sounder was full of fish. They ended up with some nice bonito and a couple of legal kings for their efforts.
On Sunday it was another day of beautiful weather with plenty of fish to go with it. They trolled up plenty of bonito early, then looked for some kings. Finally found the kings in 63 metres to the northeast of Montague, unfortunately the seals were a problem, but they still managed to get fish over 70cms to the boat.
Dash Bowater at Narooma Ocean Hut Compleat Angler, his son Riley and his regular fishing mate Mark “Hippie” Carradus had a tough day on the Narooma inlet on the weekend, but still caught plenty of fish.
“Another tough day in the Wagonga Inlet office, around 20 all up with an assortment of salmon, trevally, bream, flathead, flounder and catch of the day being Hippie’s ‘whitebait’! Most fish were caught in the first hour of daylight, then after that it was hard going to the point Hippie and Riley thought they had a double hook-up until they realized it was the same fish. Still in discussions over who hooked it first. It seems if you want to catch a few in Wagonga at present then brave the cold and start at the crack of dawn, then after a few you might as well go home for breakfast.”
Graham at Tackleworld Moruya had some good reports from the Moruya River while weather permitted this week of bream and luderick down around the hole in the wall with a few perch being caught around the bridge of the evening.
At Tuross, there have been some nice flatties are being around the four ways in the deep using live poddies or slowly worked squidgy 100mm bloodworm wrigglers . Upstream above the highway bridge whiting, perch and bream are being caught on squirt worms and lightly weighted 80mm Wrigglers and Pro lobby's
On the rocks and beaches, there have been great reports in the later part of the week of salmon and bream being caught in a great little gutter near the surf club also to the north along racecourse, beach bream and salmon are being caught mainly on pillies and beach worms. Down south from Murrimburah point to the Coila area bream, salmon and some nice whitting are also being caught again mainly on salted pilchards and beach worms.
Offshore from Moruya, still good catches of snapper and gummy sharks are being caught in around the 30 meter mark mainly while anchored up and putting out a burley trail.
Scotty at Bermi Bait & Tackle reported yesterday: “Well the warm core eddy has taken shape the past few days as it does each year leading up to the full moon of this month (tomorrow). Whilst many have been chasing travelling fish along the coast many fish are now holding on the edges and into the eddy highlighted on the chart attached. The issue is the western edge is at the 151 line and commercial captures are good but beyond that line at present. Should that body of water move toward us well and good, otherwise it can shift north or simply breakdown in weeks/days to come. So out of reach at the moment for most but there's a few sharks about today. 'Warlock' raised 4 Mako's on the 6 Mile this afternoon after berleying for most of the day.”
