A newly formed branch the Narooma Dog Training Club (NDTC) was officially inaugurated under the Animal Welfare League (AWL) NSW on Friday, July 15, at the Uniting Church Hall in Narooma and was attended by the AWL NSW Branch Liaison Officer Helen Powderly.

The Eurobodalla Shire now has two AWL NSW Branches and focuses on specific companion animal portfolios. The AWL NSW Eurobodalla Branch specifically deals with desexings, re-homings and surrenders of animals. For enquiries, please phone Elaine on 0410 016 612.
The AWL NSW NDTC Branch specifically deals with pet dog training and education. This newly formed branch meets every Saturday afternoon from 1pm at NATA Oval Narooma for obedience and agility dog training. De-sexing Month
There are many figures on the internet that underscore the importance of de-sexing cats. Whether all of them are true remains to be seen but one statistic states that if a pair of kittens started breeding and they, and their offspring were not de-sexed, after seven years you would have 470,000 cats!
The benefits of de-sexing our feline friends are great; it reduces the likelihood of cancer of the reproductive organs and the animals tend to live happier lives. De-sexed cats are less likely to wander or to get in to fights which is good news for our vet bills and the local wildlife. The cost of having to care and rehome unwanted kittens is high
The AWL is a sponsor of National De-sexing Month. Should you wish to have an animal de-sexed, be it cat, dog, guinea pig or rat, speak to your vet to see if they are part of the scheme and then call our Welfare Officer on 0466 012 426 to organise a voucher.

The Far South Coast branch of the AWL meanwhile has plenty of pets for adoption, including Lexie the 10-month-old female domestic medium hair cat. Dogs include Ruby, the 7-month-old female brindle Staffy cross and Rusty the 10-month-old Lab cross. Call 0400 372 609.
