Last year, the club had more than 100 children attend the great event, that has been running for 35 years, but the club is looking to double this number for 2016.
The fishing club is a non-profit club with all of the prize monies, vouchers, door prizes and numerous rod and reel combos for juniors all donated by local businesses from Batemans Bay to Moruya.
The Tomakin Fishing Club is also one of 20 fishing clubs in NSW that has been granted approval and is receiving funding from the Department of Primary Industries, Fisheries division to conduct a workshop on October 16, which will be part of the new ‘National Gone Fishing Day’ for 2016.

Tomakin Fishing Club president Adam Martin said the idea behind these workshops is to introduce fishing to children and adults that have never gone fishing before.
“We will be taking the time to show them the basics of preparing for fishing then take them to a designated area and go fishing for a few hours,” Mr Martin said. “We will be contacting all the schools in Braidwood, Batemans Bay, Moruya and in between about this shortly.”
In other news, the Tomakin Fishing Club is in the process of creating a joint venture between itself, the Malua Bay Fishing Club and a local tackle shop.
The venture is a kids-only competition that will start on January 1, 2017 and finish in late December 2017. There will be great prizes for the juniors and a many categories giving a multitude of opportunities for the kids to wet a line.
“The purpose of this competition has two main points,” Mr Martin said. “One to encourage the youth to get back into the great recreational activity of fishing and two, help the two fishing clubs increase its junior members. The only entry requirement to enter this public competition is become a member of either or both fishing clubs.”
Mr Martin said the fishing club was going through a complete rebuild of its structure and has rolled out many new features in just the last six weeks.
