The high level scattered clouds overhead and water temperature of 14C lured just one Blue Bottle, one Blue Pointer and three Blue Balls for Sunday's third last swim of the season for the Bermagui Blue Balls (BBB) winter swimming club.

While participants were few in number they paddled and floated about with their customary high spirits. Bazza's Bermagui Bakery has become a favourite with a number of the BBB as they have diligently worked their way through the pie menu offerings during the course of the winter swim season.
So five varieties of Bazza's pies were purchased and a blind taste test was conducted after Sunday's swim. The Blue Ringed Challenge board was set up and tasting commenced.
Feeling a bit like the cooking judges on TV various nods, grunts and slurps ensured. After round 3 of tasting Gary Pearse, BBB founder, mentor and inspiration, quickly wrapped a tea towel around his neck like a cravatt and stuck a towel up under his fleece accentuating his tummy. “Who am I?” he asked. “Matt Preston” was the reply in unison.
Skilfully the pie connoisseurs guessed correctly all five different varieties and agreed that Bazza's made the best pies on the far south coast.
Just two more swims for this season so if you'd like to join the team built for comfort and not for speed, bring your togs, bottle of tomato sauce and good humour to Blue Pool at 9am on Sunday.
