The school has donated old library books to Singawamba School in Kalomo, Zambia, raising $197 to cover the cost of sending the books to Africa at a mini fete and carnival last month.
Liane Hornig, who is the president of the Central Tilba Parents and Citizens Association, said Singawamba was located in a disadvantaged part of the country but was part of a project national known as Planting A Future which aimed to fight chronic hunger, facilitate a water supply, create jobs and support education.
"Our principal and Year 3-6 teacher John Carter showed our students the Planting A Future website so they could see the village and the school and get a greater understanding of the conditions in which the people live," Ms Hornig said.
"Clean drinking water, for example, is a major issue for the village, and with no bore the people, including children, must carry water," she said.
The 20kg box of books - which included dictionaries, encyclopaedias and other reference material - was posted last week and will take about a month to arrive.
Included with the books were letters written by Central Tilba's primary pupils as part of their literacy curriculum, together with photos of themselves and their school.
The pupils were keen to maintain pen-pal links with their young Singawamba counterparts, as well as investigating ways to further assist the village through fundraising for a water bore, Ms Hornig said.
Meanwhile, Central Tilba Public School's Spring Bush Dance will be held Saturday, October 22 in the town's hall.
Tickets are priced at $70 per family, adults $25, children $10 and preschoolers free.
Tickets must be purchased before the event and are available from Central Tilba School or Sandy at the Tilba Markets on Saturday mornings. During the school holidays tickets are available from Christina on phone 4473 7053.
