The Cobargo Crime Convention will showcase eight of Australia's best crime novelists.
Together they represent the Australian chapter of the ‘Sisters in Crime’ organisation who support women whose craft is to write novels of beguiling plot twists, blood and gore, history and place.
Authors include Ilsa Evans, LJM Owen, Janice Simpson, Caroline de Costa, Candice Fox, Sulari Gentill, Dorothy Johnston and Kay Schubach.
An introduction to the Sisters in Crime network will take place at the Bermagui Library on Friday, October 7, at 5pm – Blood Marys will be available!
This will be followed by a short performance by Four Winds and Sisters in Crime resident artists The Griffyn Ensemble and Rednote Ensemble in the Community Centre Hall.
One of the specialist authors, Kay Schubach, is a domestic violence consultant.
Kay found writing her own personal story has helped her deal with an abusive relationship and under the spotlight.
At the Convention, she will reveal what drove her to crime.
“What happens when the man of your dreams makes your life a nightmare? Trapped in a terrifying relationship, isolated from friends and family, Kay must decide what she values most, and fight for it.” (Penguin Books, 2012)
Canberra author Dorothy Johnston said a festival organiser wrote her a welcome email, which said that they were “washing the streets of Cobargo” in honour of the writers’ arrival.
“While this is an attractive idea, I wonder if it really fits a collection of crime writers, who might be more comfortable with dirty streets, even blood-stained ones?”
The Sisters in Crime: Cobargo Crime Convention opens Friday 7th October at the Bermagui Library, then runs through to Sunday 9th October 2016 at the Cobargo School of Arts Hall, NSW
