Weeks of meticulous planning by experienced walk leaders Margaret Lynch and Jan Thomas came to nothing when the rain rolled over the range on Wednesday with the promise of more on Thursday. Margaret and Jan made the call late Wednesday as the conditions around Nerrigundah were slippery bordering on dangerous and waters were raising in Sawpit Creek. Keen walkers were disappointed but the less hardy of us, on waking to the sound of rain pelting on the roof were happy not to venture out in the elements.

Saturday offered the walkers a choice of the harder walk to Peak Alone in Wadbilliga National Park and a more leisurely amble in the Mystery Bay area. The choice evaporated when the Peak Alone walk was called off late in the week.
The remaining walk in Mystery Bay on Saturday was well supported with 13 Dalmeny Narooma Bushwalkers meeting at the Plaza including two new bushwalkers Janet Sinclair and Elaine Passfield.
Thursday`s rain seemed a distant memory. Walkers were greeted by stunning blue skies. It looked smelt and felt like summer. Walkers started on the beach at the southern end of Mystery Bay with the tide allowing them to continue all the way to the entry of Tilba Lakes, with minimal scrambling over rocks.
Walkers then skirted around the wetlands and sandy ridges to eventually find the gravel road accessing 1080 beach and then followed bush tracks behind the bay arriving back at the carpark. The 9km walk provided welcome physical activity in perfect conditions at the end of the rainy week.
On the way they found time to enjoy morning tea in a secluded bay and lunch on an elevated timber platform above the beach, taking in the views back to 1080 Beach out to Bermagui, spotting the whales breaching. Turning around and gazing back to Guluga over the Tilba Lakes, you could almost forget we were there to eat.
At walk’s end both Janet and Elaine indicated that they had been made most welcome. Current and prospective bushwalkers can obtain more details from website www.dalmenynaroomabushwalkers.info/
