Monty's Place feeds the disadvantaged and lonely, providing a friendly meeting place for everyone. Located at the Mt Dromedary Uniting Church, Monty’s Place now serves meals to an average of 70 people every Wednesday lunchtime.
“It’s near enough to 10,000 meals,” said head chef Gerd Tiedt. “That’s an average of 70 meals every Wednesday by 52 weeks for three years.”

There is a small army of around 40 active volunteers making it all possible. Monty’s Place drew its inspiration from long-standing Ricky’s Place at Bega. More recently Pearl’s Place was started at Merimbula and also the Red Door run by the Anglican Church in Moruya.
Wednesday was also an opportunity for John Rowley and Bob Burnside from the Dalmeny Deviates group to hand over a $500 cheque, part of the proceeds from the annual charity bowls day. Accepting the cheque was Helen Smith, secretary of the Monty's Place committee and who also works in the kitchen.
Monty’s Places serves delicious, free meals every Wednesday from 12noon to 1.30pm with music sometime accompanying the food. There will also be the annual Monty’s Christmas party coming up in December.
There are also often attending representatives from various services including legal aid, housing and South East Women & Children’s Services.
