“It’s the activity we look forward to – getting out of the house on a Wednesday,” she said. “Ginger gets very excited. She says, ‘I’m going to see my friends at playgroup today’. She can’t wait for the music and the dancing.”
Eurobodalla Shire Council runs 3Bs playgroups at seven locations across Eurobodalla, and three operate weekly.
They include story time, music time, morning tea and fun activities that promote reading, maths, science, creativity, social skills and physical abilities.
3Bs is run by professional educators and caters to families with children aged zero to five.
Ms Rixon, of Bergalia, started taking Ginger and Rosa to 3Bs to enable Ginger to play with children her own age and to meet people in the community.
Ginger isn’t the only one who made new friends.
“I make an effort to have a conversation with all the regulars as well as the new people who come to the playgroup. Sometimes we’ve had catch-ups outside of playgroup as well,” Ms Rixon said. “I love the social aspect and the fact that it’s really well run. There’s lots of activities for the kids, both structured and unstructured play. It also provides an opportunity to discuss any challenges with other parents and share ideas.”
While seven-and-a-half-month-old Rosa is yet to discover her own love of dancing, she doesn’t miss out on the fun.
“Rosa likes to watch at the moment but there’s also toys for her age group,” Ms Rixon said.
3Bs playgroups are held at Dalmeny, Bodalla, Tuross Head, Tomakin, Mogo, Sunshine Bay and Batehaven and are funded by the Commonwealth Department of Social Services.
