RFS Far South Coast community safety officer Marty Webster said the volunteer firefighters had been able to knock down the edges of the fire, but it had been burning in very inaccessible and rugged country.
The fire by this morning had now travelled from private property into neighbouring National Parks and staff from the NPWS had now taken over monitoring and mapping the fire.
Mr Webster said he understood the fire had never burned that intensely and was not a threat to property or life.
“It’s no longer an active fire,” he said.
