Senior Constable Curry meanwhile was also awarded NSW PCYC Police Officer of the Year 2015, an honour he shared with another PCYC officer from Port Macquarie.
This year's outstanding field of finalists in the NSW Rotary Police Officer Of The Year Awards include a pioneer in counter terrorism, passionate campaigners against domestic violence, determined indigenous leaders and a dedicated officer nominated by a victim's grieving family.
The finalists have been identified in eight separate categories according to their roles and expertise. The category winners and overall Police Officer Of The Year will be announced at a special dinner on Friday, November 4 in Sydney.
Senior Constable Curry is the youth case manager at the Far South Coast PCYC and regularly treks up and down the South Coast encouraging young people to stay on the ‘straight and narrow’, according to the Rotary award nomination.
His list of engagements is exhausting, from indigenous football competitions, cultural camps and hiking expeditions to golf days, Blue Light discos and the Time 4 Kids program.
“Senior Constable Curry often devotes his own time to promote the initiatives through local media, elders and the local community,” the nomination reads. “He has been credited with ‘single-handedly making a name for the PCYC on the Far South Coast’ and is constantly seeking to enhance his skills and abilities as a youth case manager.”
