At about 4pm, on November 5, a witness saw a small seaplane, which appeared to be in difficulties, circling Mummaga Lake, Dalmeny, before it made “a rather dramatic landing”.
The witness told the Narooma News the plane “seemed to be going round in circles for quite some time”.
“(It) even came close to a boat trying to get back to the ramp,” he said.
As the plane circled “lower and lower”, the witness rushed home for diving gear “thinking I might need to pull the guy out”.
However, the pilot managed to get the plane out of the lake, with “heaps of water” pouring from it.
Shortly before 5pm Monday, the seaplane remained at the boat ramp.
The Super Petrel LS amphibious seaplane remained at the ramp overnight but by Tuesday lunchtime it had disappeared, most likely on the back of a trailer as there were no reports of an aircraft taking off from the lake.
Narooma police were notified of the incident Tuesday morning but the plane had been removed shortly before they arrived at the boat ramp to check it out.
