Narooma Chamber of Commerce president Niels Bendixsen said now in its ninth year, the Oyster Festival celebrated the premium oysters of the NSW Far South Coast, their growers, our chefs, and the region’s rich artistic and cultural talents.
“We’re delighted with the planning to date,” Mr Bendixsen said. “The 2017 program will offer something for everyone, from fine foodies wanting to sample the best produce of the South Coast, to families wanting a good fun time together.”
Typically attracting 3000 to 4000 people, the oyster festival provided Narooma with a platform to market the town to a broad audience and attracted visitors at a time of year that traditionally experiences low visitation, he said.
The chamber paused on the Narooma Oyster Festival in 2016 to review how it might be more sustainably delivered.
“Staging a major food event like the oyster festival is a significant undertaking for a small group of volunteers,” Mr Bendixsen said.
“The chamber has received a lot of support and had time to make sure we have the right expertise in place.
“We have engaged a professional events management company with experience in delivering large food festivals and a small team of local volunteers are working hard on the planning stages to make sure this year’s festival is a winner.”
The Narooma Oyster Festival program is being finalised and updates will be available at www.naroomaoysterfestival.com as they come to hand.
“We need the support of the town to make the festival a big success. Our team will be out over the coming weeks seeking sponsorship and looking for stallholders and volunteers. I urge you to get behind this terrific community event.”
