Marcus, has already raised $1,500 and hopes that with the support of his students, colleagues, friends and family, he will raise more than $3,000 for Cancer Council NSW. 

He will depart home on Friday, March 17 in the afternoon at the entrance to Bermagui and run for approximately 15 hours, stretched over three days.

He will also be taking a special detour past the Bill Smyth Oval in Narooma on Saturday, March 18 to complete a very special lap at the Eurobodalla Relay for Life.

Relay for Life is a fun and exciting event for the whole community. Relay For Life is family friendly, with games and activities, delicious food and entertainment throughout the entire 24-hours even.

The relay is also an opportunity for the local community takes time to recognise and celebrate local cancer survivors, patients and their carers, to honour and remember loved ones lost to cancer and to raise money to help save more lives.

The relay kicks off at 10am on Saturday with an opening ceremony, various dignitaries attending and a lap of honour by cancer survivors and supporters.

Marcus said he had the idea of running in support and in memory of those close to him who have been touched by cancer for quite some time now.

He is excited that it is now coming together and has the opportunity to show his appreciation for the lovely friends and family in his life and to give something back to those less fortunate who are suffering with cancer.

Marcus was inspired to run the incredible distance by the courage and strength of a close friend and cancer survivor Tim O’brien.

Along with Tim, Marcus would like to dedicate his run to three close friends he has lost to cancer; Jane, Emma and Travis.

“Everyone has been affected by it cancer in some way and I really want to do my part by raising money to help the victims and their families,” Marcus said. “I know Jane, Trav and Emma will be watching over when I am running.”

Marcus is encouraging everyone to get behind his effort by donating to the cause and following his journey at the Eurobodalla Relay for Life or somewhere along the route. All funds raised will go towards Cancer Council NSW’s vital cancer research, prevention and support services.

Cancer Council NSW community engagement coordinator, Kate Brett said the heart and soul of this event was honouring those in our community who have fought cancer or cared for someone with cancer.

“We’re really excited that Marcus is able to join us at relay as he passes through Narooma on his epic run honouring those close to him who have been touched by cancer,” she said. “If you see him on his run, please give him a wave and encourage him with this challenge!”
