The seniors competition started on Friday and Joe's first event was the 2km beach run in the Open division, racing against approximately 50 competitors.
Joe said the event was held on soft sand and it was a very gruelling race.
“It was a very hard slog through soft sand for 2km, the lead changed several times between myself and a Sydney competitor,” he said.
It was a tight tussle between the two, as they pulled away from the rest of the field with Joe taking the silver medal, finishing only 5 metres behind.
It was a great contest to watch as neither has any left in the tank, he said, so well done Joe.
The next day Joe backed up and ran in the Opens sprints and won his heat, progressing through to the semi-final where he came fifth and was eliminated in a photo finish.
Joe's next competition is the Australian Surf Titles held at the Gold Coast from March 25 to April 2.
