Tilba resident Annette Kennewell in past years has organised public Earth Hour events to highlight the need for urgent action on climate change.

But this year, she is staying home in Central Tilba during this year’s Earth Hour, on Saturday, March 26 from 8.30am to 9.30am, to minimise her carbon footprint.

“Yes I’ll be switching off the lights for an hour between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Saturday. But Earth Hour for me is about long-term sustainable lifestyle changes,” she said.

“This year Earth Hour is celebrating 10 years of progress but I’m reflecting on another hottest year ever and considering what effective actions I personally and my community can take to mitigate the effects of climate change.

“I’ve already installed solar hot water and switched to 100 per cent green energy.

“Recently I’ve changed to LED lighting throughout my home and installed rooftop solar as part of the Eurobodalla community solar bulk buy.”

There’s still time for Eurobodalla residents and business owners to take a solar pledge for Earth Hour 2017. Find out more at http://earthhour.org.au/home/
