‘We’ve really ramped up the Festival’s opening night to be a wonderful community event,” said Friday organisers Dave Moore and Michael Gardner.
“It’ll really rock and be a great start to the festival the next day, so come on down early with your friends and family, eat there and enjoy the evening and it’s free.”
The festivities at the festival site at Quota Park, overlooking Wagonga Inlet, start at 6pm with fireworks on the water about 8pm.
The energetic 19-Twenty is a blues, folk and rock band that is “a must see”.
“These guys have been rocking Australia and kicking up a storm with their extraordinary energy and talent,” Mr Moore said.
The band will be supported by students from Narooma High School.
Kathryn Ratcliffe’s pop-up oyster van, Narooma Rotary barbecue, Central Tilba P&C food stall and Montague Coffee will be on site for the evening.
Narooma Chamber of Commerce instigated the oyster festival as a signature experience for oyster lovers and to attract people from outside the area.
“The festival showcases oysters from five estuaries on the South Coast, which is one of the world’s most environmentally sustainable oyster growing regions, as well as the area’s many features,” Mr Moore said.
“The festival entices visitors to stay a few days in Narooma at a traditionally slower time of year, and encourages them to return.”
The program for Saturday, May 6 is now being finalised including the celebrity chefs’ cooking demonstrations, the Ultimate Oyster Experience, and the oyster shucking competition. Details next week.
More than 50 stallholders have booked for Saturday’s Festival, which runs from 10am to 4pm on the Saturday.
