Mr Constance said the NSW Government allocated $140,000 to build a pedestrian refuge on the Princes Highway north of Riverside Drive.

A Roads and Maritime Services spokesman said motorists would still be able to make the turn into Riverside Drive from the Princes Highway.

“An existing pedestrian path is located on each side of the Princes Highway south of Narooma Bridge but during weekends or holidays, it can become difficult for pedestrians to safely cross the Princes Highway at the path,” Mr Constance said.

“The installation of a pedestrian refuge will provide a safer crossing of the Princes Highway by allowing pedestrians to cross one direction of traffic at a time.”

Mr Constance said work is scheduled to start next Monday, May 15 and is expected to take five days to complete, weather permitting.

Work will be carried out on weekdays between 7am and 5pm.

“For the safety of workers and motorists, changed traffic conditions will be in place including traffic control, lane closures and a reduced 40 km/h speed limit during work hours,” Mr Constance said.

“Motorists should ensure they follow the direction of traffic control and reduce speed limits.”
