The Group 16 Rugby League Narooma Devils took on the strong Merimbula-Pambula Bulldogs at the Pambula Sporting Complex last Sunday. The day promised several tough matches and this was true with the Firsts and Under 18s involved in torrid matches.

The senior Devils once again had several top players out but were strengthened by the return of big Todd Wright in the forwards.
The Devils started on fire with Ninnum Parsons scoring early but the Bulldogs hit back with two converted tries. Big Stephen Brown scored next but the Dogs scored again to lead 18-12 at the break.
Another try to Brown and one to Todd Ayers on the full time bell could not reel the Dogs in who won by 30-22. Ryan Norris was the goal kicker with three conversions.
Best for the Devils were Todd Wright, Stephen Brown, Ninnum Parsons, Todd Ayers and Tyson Hastie who hurt his knee, hopefully not too seriously.
It was a gallant display from the Devils and they are confident of turning the tables in the return match.
The Under 18s came up against a very strong Bulldogs team which boasts two Country Under 18s reps.
Angus Wilton and Harry Bunney scored early to give the Devils an 8-0 lead but the boys could not hold out the Dogs going down 22-8.
The boys have had an unsettled couple of weeks with various team members unavailable but they definitely have the ability to shake up the competition if they can settle their combinations and become more consistent by training hard and following the coaches game plan.
The Ladies League Tag came up against a red hot “Hot-Doggies” team who proved too much for our girls winning 44-0.
The girls tried hard but the recent loss of two very good players to impending motherhood, an interesting and previously non-relevant Rugby League development, has made it pretty tough for the girls with reduced numbers at games.
Any ladies who would like to have a run please come to Smyth Oval on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm and meet the team.
Next week the Devils take on the Bombala Blue Heelers who are riding high in the Group 16 competition. With the First Grade likely to be at full strength it should be a top game! The Under 18s have a bye, the Ladies Tag is at 1.15pm and First Grade is at 2.30pm.
