The winter has finally arrived and while at some dragon boat clubs across NSW the paddlers have hung up their paddles and locked the boat shed doors until the warmer weather returns, in Narooma, paddlers continue to enjoy up to three paddles per week on our beautiful waterways.

Winter in Narooma is a time when the weather is more predictable and settled than at any other time of the year. The days tend to be calm, are often gloriously sunny but not too hot.
Combine these perfect weather conditions with quiet waterways and it is a perfect time to come and have a go at dragon boating.
Narooma Blue Water Dragons have three paddling sessions per week so there is sure to be a time that suits you. Our sessions are: Saturday at 8.30am, Tuesday at 1.15pm and Thursday at 1.15pm.
While conditions are perfect it is still important to wear the right clothing for the season. It is preferable to avoid wearing thick/heavy clothing when paddling.
Close fitting, long sleeve "rash" shirts are a good option as are lightweight merino or thermal shirts. Lightweight quick drying or neoprene pants are the most suitable. Water shoes or neoprene boots are best on your feet. Cotton and fleece materials are NOT suitable as they will hold water and make you cold. If there is a bit of wind, a lightweight wind resistant jacket is also a good idea.
During our winter paddling sessions the coach and/or the sweep also endeavour to keep us moving so we don't get cold! Finally, it is a good idea to bring a warm jumper or jacket to put on after paddling plus a towel and change of clothes and shoes in case you get wet.
If this has got you enthused and you would like to have a go at Dragon Boating, pop down to the club’s boat shed (situated next to the Quarterdeck Café) on Saturdays at 8.30am. For more information contact the club via email at Narooma.bwd@gmail.com You can also follow us on Facebook.
