Local singer and concert MC, Shanna Provost explained that the Seniors Week concert earlier this year was so popular that the seniors requested more regular mid-week concerts at Club Narooma.
Ms Provost congratulated the Narooma Sporting and Services Club board for coming to the party and playing host to more concerts that would make the seniors very happy. Both the IRT and Estia Health retirement villages at Dalmeny bussed in residents to the concert.
“The seniors said we want more, so the board said four more a year and listened to its members,” she said.
The first in this latest series of concerts featured singer and guitarist Rino Morea, for whom the Narooma appearance was a bit of a homecoming.
Mr Morea used to live in Moruya and be a regular performer at the old Narooma RSL together with his son Jade.
Now he has moved to Tasmania with his wife Kerrie and the Narooma performance was part of their latest tour back on the mainland over six weeks.
Attending the concert on Thursday was his old bandmate Eugene Zammit who used to be the bass player in their band Nightshift that was active from the year 2000 onward. He drove up from Moruya just to catch up with his old mate.
Also big fans of Rino Morea were carers Cindy and Erin Hayman looking after John Kivits. The family, mum, her brother, and her daughter have been fans of Rino Morea for 13 years, since the daughter was age 6 and they travel to his concerts when they can.
Seniors such Betty Blakeley, 84, sitting with friends Jean Culcutt, 86, and 90-year-old Bob Streeter. really enjoyed the concert. Betty still has her wicked sense of humour.
“I’m as old at the Sydney Harbour Bridge, but have had no maintenance,” she said.
The next seniors concert at Club Narooma will be in September and Ms Provost is thinking it will have a jazz theme, so stay tuned!
