Eurobodalla Shire Council was on Tuesday, June 27, part of a NSW Civil and Administrative Tribunal case teleconference with HuntFest and its opponents, the Stop Arms Fairs in Eurobodalla (SAFE) group.

Any hope it would lead to mediation or a resolution were soon dashed.

A council spokeswoman said after Tuesday’s conference the case had been set down for a hearing in September.

“The outcome of today’s case conference is that an NCAT hearing has been set down for 27 September in Sydney,” the spokeswoman said yesterday.

However, a gag has been imposed on the details.

“The tribunal has informed the council it may not discuss the matter publicly until it is resolved,” the spokeswoman said.

SAFE lobbied the council to release documents relating to HuntFest’s successful bid to secure a five-year extension of its licence for the annual hunting event at NATA Oval, Narooma.

A SAFE spokeswoman said the council initially refused, but later agreed to release the documents.

However, HuntFest has appealed that decision.

HuntFest is held at the Narooma Sport and Leisure Centre on the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.

This year, organisers said the two-day event attracted more than 2000 people.
