Unfortunately being outnumbered buy a bigger Merimbula side they were easily beaten but put up a brave battle to the end. Coach Simon Mackie has his work cut out for him each week getting a team together but has a great bunch of kids each week.
Next step was the Under 11s, coach Dean Frisken and his band of helpers have this team playing some good attacking football resulting in a good win final scores Narooma 6.5 = 41 Tathra 1.5 = 11
Then it was the development grades turn to go up against Tathra, this year the team resembles more of a reserve side with some new players and some more experienced players returning to the field.
The boys had a good result final scores and Narooma 13.7 = 85 Tathra 4.4 = 28
The penultimate game of the day was the women's grade who are missing a few regulars plus their coach Peter McCulloch so it was always going to be a struggle. The girls tried hard but went down to Tathra final scores Narooma 2.2 = 14 Tathra 13.8 = 86
Next up at 2:30pm was a game of the day, seniors versus Tathra, you never know what Tathra will bring so it could well mean a hard day at the office.
Simon ‘Butters’ Mackie found that out before the first bounce when two Tathra players headed in his direction but coach Mick Clothier had a plan putting Rowan Hawkey at forward as he doesn't mind kicking a goal or two.
Unfortunately the team had another slow start with Tathra getting the jump with some early first quarter goals and ended the quarter five goals in front and the Lions scratching their heads at what to do next .
The second quarter started much better for the Lions with Jordan Lang in the ruck getting some good tapouts, which Luke “Red Dog” Talty and Jason “Nugget” took advantage of getting some great clearances out of the centre.
Down the back line and Campbell and Benny McCulloch was starting to nullify their opponents Mick Sadler back from injury was also make his presence felt , while up forward Rowan Hawkey was starting to convert the opportunity into goals.
The game continued in this way with Narooma slowly getting the edge on Tathra maintaining a lead on the scoreboard. Winning by a comfortable margin in the end after a stunning first quarter, which showed an overall a great team effort final scores Narooma 20.18 = 138 Tathra 14.9 = 93.
Goal kickers: Rowan Hawkey 4; Jeremy Sly 4,Luke Wiggins 3, Zac Cowley 3, Simon Mackie 2, Jordan Lang 1 and Tommy Clarke 1.
Best players Luke Red Dog Talty Jordan Lang, Tommy Clarke, Aaron Campbell Luke Wiggins Ben Mcculloch.
Finally I would like to thank our volunteers for the day as we were down on numbers with some doing family duties or out injured. Also thank you to all our sponsors .
