Original story: New Narooma oyster farmer disappointed by theft
Mr Fernihough has just moved to Narooma from Western Australia to take over an existing oyster-growing operation from a grower who was leaving the industry. He said he was terribly embarrassed by the miscount of oysters and apologised to other growers and the community for the misunderstanding.
One whole lease was left off his latest count and so he assumed that these oysters had been stolen. But it in the latest count of all his leases, he realised the lease he missed out in the previous count actually contained the missing oysters.
Mr Fernihough, 26, said it was all part of the learning experience and he was gaining a greater appreciation of the oyster farming business every day.
He again stated how welcoming the Narooma community in general and the other oysters growers had been and he was now looking forward to moving on and selling his first Sydney rock oysters.
