Very mild conditions welcomed a field of 125 players where preferred lies gave credence to the theory that players of lesser ability enjoy the benefits more, as players in C Grade provided half the field and two thirds of the top 25 scores and contributed greatly to the DSR of 71. In A Grade Mark Elmasri registered 38 points off a handicap of 6 to win by one point from Graham Kerr. Jim Grant took third position on 35 points on countback from Bill Durnan and Colin Holmes. Robert Coulson took out B Grade with 37 points off a handicap of 15, one better than Wayne Houston and Anton Galloway, with Simon Carr, Graham Small and Rod Shepherd missing out on countback. C Grade saw the best scores of the day with Rod Holman off a handicap of 22 heading Derek Smith on countback with 39 points. Tony Hunt took out the third place with 38 points in a five-way countback from Robert Dunn, Grahame Mumme, Lionel Field and Frank Clarke. The nearest-the-pin winners were Rod Shepherd on 3, Josh Stokes on 9, Rod Holman on 14 and Lionel Field on 17, while the ball competition went down to all on 34 points.
