U7 Reds played Merimbula/Pambula first, then Tathra and finally Bega in closely contested matches where Devils ended each game slightly ahead in touchdowns. Eddie could not and did not want to single out a single Player of the Carnival presenting his whole team with Milo Awards for their efforts.
Nigel was extremely pleased with his team in all three games against Bega 1, then Eden and finishing their day with Bega 2. All games were solid encounters with the Whites more than holding their own against these sides. Stand-out on the day was Asher Bywater for this group.
U8’s drew Tathra, Merimbula/Pambula and finally Bega. Rob judged these games fairly even but applauded his players for their defensive game where Quinten Gibson was outstanding, continually halting their opponents attack.
Brendan’s U9’s always give 100 per cent and Saturday was no exception. Playing Merimbula/Pambula, Batemans Bay and then Tathra, all games were solid encounters with Devils dominant on the day. Hunter McDonald gained Brendan’s nod for really determined play in all three rounds.
JUNIOR DEVILS HOST BEGA AT HOME
With Minis away, last weekend’s round against Bega was a shorter program but certainly didn’t disappoint with six extremely entertaining games.
Mod Girls kicked the day off with a first half that tested Kate’s girls going to the break only slightly ahead 22–18. Second Half saw a more determined Devils Team forge ahead with Halle, Crystal and Tara all putting in tries to put the girls in front 42–28 to win the game. Tara Naylor was awarded Player’s Player while Stella Boyle gained coaching staff’s top Player on the Day.
Andrew’s U10’s had not been beaten this year and the team were determined to retain this unbeaten record against Bega. Supporters were treated to some superb footy in attack and defence with players having to withstand some heavy hit-ups on their own line, holding strong to go to the break 12–0. Second Half Devils lifted to secure a 34–18 victory in what was a truly great game. Drew Arentz and Sam Patmore could not be separated given their performances on the day.
U12’s trained hard this week for Ross and again were rewarded for their hard work. Way too good for their opponents this running and tackling machine delivered a 34–6 solid defeat over Bega with Ethan Griffiths and Noah Martin named joint top performers on the day.
Craig was pleased to see U14’s get back to near full strength after flu and injuries had taken their toll on this team. They didn’t disappoint and presented supporters with a dominant display of power in both attack and defence over their Bega opposition. At half time 18-0 and surging ahead in the second half finishing 46-0, this was a top result with Khan Mathews-Bennett gaining Player of the Day.
International Girls League Tag saw Bega arrive with a huge squad of talented girls to test Scott’s girls. This, they did, with our girls only just holding on to lead Bega 10-8 at half time. Supporters held their breath as each team battled to go to the lead, but with 4 minutes to go Devils crossed to win 16-14. Makayla Morris was outstanding and received Player of the Day.
With many of Paul’s boys stricken with flu U16’s put in a massive first half to go to the break in front 12-0. It appeared then we may have made it six wins from six games but this was not to be with Bega too strong for our boys running out winners 18-12. Kaleb Moritz was awarded Player of the Game for Devils. This result sends our boys to Bega next Saturday to play Merimbula/Pambula in the U16 Minor Semi Final.
Next Sunday Narooma will host the Major Semi Finals on Bill Smyth Oval with five Junior Devil teams included in the six game program. It is a great result for our club and will provide a sensational day of Junior Footy, so please come down and support our boys and girls who have worked enormously hard all season to represent our town.
