Colin Pass gave a talk on the use of colour and composition to optimise the best impact for members’ photographs. Peter Seath then led a practical session using various objects to demonstrate aspects of composition.
Wednesday, August 16 was “Ladies’ night” at the club competition, well almost. Lady members took out every award except one. It was left to Russell Howick to save face for the men.
The judge for the evening was photographer and artist Geri Taylor.
The set subject for the competition was Rock Pools and the competition results were:
Division A Set Subject – Rock pools:
Gold award: Krysia St. Clair.
Silver awards: Shirley Gunter; Rosy Williams.
Division A Open Category:
Gold award: Shirley Gunter.
Silver awards: Michelle Merry; Russell Howick
Division B Set Subject:
Gold award: -
Silver award: Katherine Wagner
Division B Open Category:
Gold award: Ally Aitken
Silver awards: Deb Flynn (2 awards).
After the competition, members showed the photographs which they had taken on a visit to the On the Perch bird park in Tathra. Despite the difficulty of taking pictures of small fast moving animals, there were some excellent results.
Colin Pass then gave a talk called “Learning to see”, which included improving visual awareness and anticipation to get the best photographic results.
