The Rolling Waves began with fast set plays and solid passes, whilst it took the Flames some time to settle into their regular play. The Waves took advantage of this to lead by 6-2 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Flames’ strong defence from Clarinda and Layla put the opposition under constant pressure.
Meanwhile, in attack, Madelin and Sarah helped to work the ball around the outside of the goals, whilst Milana and Erica settled into set plays inside and outside of the goals.
This solid performance meant neither team was able to establish an advantage, and with both teams scoring three points, the halftime score was 9-5 to Waves.
In the third quarter, some strategic changes were employed by coach Melissa Cafe, yet the Rolling Waves continued with their unstoppable defence and aggressive attacking style to gain a 16-10 lead.
In the last quarter, the Flames continued to fight, however the Waves maintained relentless defence and fluid attacking play and were rewarded with a 27-13 win.
A huge congratulations to the Flames to reach the grand final as this is a new experience for our girls and they played against an older and more experienced side.
Mel Cafe has been a fantastic and passionate coach who gets the best out of her team whilst ensuring the girls remember to have fun.
