Four paddlers from NBWD joined with members of the Illawarra Dragonboat club on Saturday for the inaugural eight-kilometre race around Pig Island. The race took about 50 minutes and required endurance and constant focus to ensure everyone paddled in time and maintained a good steady pace.
Sunday brought sunny and calm conditions – perfect for the 200 metre sprint races scheduled for day two of the regatta.
Paddlers from NBWD joined with fellow paddlers from Merimbula and Moruya to form the Southern Waratahs. The two teams, Waratah Red and Waratah White performed well improving their times in each heat as the day progressed.
Waratah White were rewarded with a spot in the final but despite posting their best time of the day were unable to bring home a medal.
