In A Grade Course Superintendent Brendan Warby used local knowledge off his handicap of 11 to register 40 points, one ahead of Mark Anderson and Steve Marsden. B Grade was also taken out with 40 points, this time by Robert Coulson off a handicap of 17, one ahead of Dominic Connaughton who headed Graeme Donohoe on countback with Mike Shevlin missing out. In C Grade Graham Mumme registered the best score of the day with 44 points off his handicap of 22, one better than Noel Fisher and two better than Sid Dean. The nearest-the-pin winners were Justin Bennett on 3 and 17, Rory Kleeman on 9 and Robert Ackling on 14, while the ball competition went down to all on 35 points.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23: Again very favourable conditions greeted the field of 119 players in the penultimate round of the Stableford Competition where the DSR again emerged at a consistent 71.
In A Grade Bill Durnan finally filled the first position with 40 points off his handicap of 5 on countback from Bob Knipler, with Jason Andrew parring the course with 38 points in third place. In B Grade Michael Wuttke-Hayes had the equal best score of the day with 42 points off his handicap of 15 to finish two points ahead of Tim Short and Dominic Connaughton who continues his journey back to A Grade with his second podium finish of the week. In C Grade Trevor Breust continued his good recent form to register 42 points off his handicap of 21, followed by a three-way countback on 39 points where Grahame Cooke headed Mandy Hall and Wayne McMillan missing out. The nearest-the-pin winners were Bill Durnan on 3, Mitch Jeffery on 9, Jason Andrew on 14 and Scott Ker on 17, while the ball competition went down to all on 35 points.
Narooma Ladies
Monday, September 18 was a 4BBB Stableford Round 5 of 5. The winners were C. Hendra and T. Wilson with 44 points. The runners-up were M. Bennett and R. Cheale with 43 on a count back. Balls went to 43 on a count back.
Wednesday, September 20, was a Par event and the winner of Division 1 was D. Landells with +4 on a count back and K. Lawrence also +4. Winner of Division 2 was J. Eardley with +3 on a count back from L. Gibbons. Nearest the Pin on the 3rd hole no one got on for Division 1. On the 9th hole for Division 2 was T. James and on the 14th hole for Division 3 was P. Shepherd. Balls went to +1 on a count back.
Bermagui Country Club
The Bermagui “Week of Golf” began with the Ladies Open on the 16th September and included various competitions throughout the week culminating with the Men’s Open on 23rd-24th September. All events enjoyed strong fields, with the Men’s Open attracting participants from 22 different clubs from across NSW and interstate.
Our golf course was in peak condition and as challenging as ever. The daily competitions were well supported by keen golfers and our generous sponsors. All participants had a great time out on the course and again at the presentations in the clubhouse after the competitions.
Results for Thursday 15th September 2017: A field of 91 players hit off in a Stableford event, sponsored by The Cream Patisserie. Proprietor, Luke Moresi enjoyed a round, and was on hand to congratulate participants and award prizes.
The A Grade winner was Javana Fereti with an excellent score of 42 points, with Willow Lalao runner-up on 40. Bob Paine claimed third with 39 edging out Jake Needs on 38 points.
Dave Webster claimed first place in B Grade with 38 points, a countback to decide runner-up to Jim Manton then Ted Munckton both on 36 points. The C Grade winner was Bruce Blair on 40 points. There was a Hole in One and subsequent eagle scored on the par three 15th hole by Dave Moore.
Results for Friday 22nd September 2017: The final medley event of the Week of Golf was a 4 Ball Better Ball (4BBB) competition, sponsored by James Squire Brewery. A history of brewer James Squire was provided prior to a popular tasting experience.
46 pairs of golfers competed in the 4BBB competition, with the Kristine Hood and James Bryan combination proving unbeatable, making a huge 49 points. Jan Heaver and Bob Paine teamed well to earn second place on 46 points.
Results for Saturday 23rd September 2017: Day 1 of the Bermagui Men’s Open Championship. 128 players contested the Bermagui Men’s Open Championship, sponsored by Michael and Fran Trenerry’s Bermagui Cellars. Players experienced sunny but windy conditions and a course presented in great condition. Stroke event off black markers.
Javana Fereti took the A Grade honours, scoring 70 off his 6 handicap. After a 3 way countback Jack Glasson (hcp 2) placed runner-up followed by Jackson Hearn (hcp 2) and Peter Gassman (hcp 10) all on 71.
B Grade winner was Bobbie Finch (hcp 16) with a score of 70, followed by David Payne, Robert Beuzeville and Shane Roberts. Jim Manton (hcp 19) snared first place in C Grade scoring a creditable 67, then followed Michael Derbyshire, Russell Allan and John Stichbury. Lowest off the stick was young gun Jack Glasson with 73.
Results for Sunday, 24th September 2017: Day 2 and final of the Open Championship. The wind had picked up considerably but 124 players continued their conquest for the holy grail.
In the daily competition Jackson Hearn (hcp 2) took the A Grade honours with a score of 74. Runner up was Henry Loth (hcp 4) with 75. The B Grade winner was Sean Lingard (hcp 17) with a score of 72. David Hall (hcp 18) to second place on 73. In C grade Ted Munckton (hcp 19) recorded the win with 72. Brendan Matters (hcp 25) took runner-up with 73.
The Men’s 36 hole Open was won by Jackson Hearn of Wollongong Golf Club playing off a handicap of 2 with a great score of 149. Jackson eagled the 18th hole to claim the championship after being all square with Nathan Batten on the 17th.
In his acceptance speech Jackson thanked the Bermagui Country Club volunteers, sponsors Supercellars, Bermagui Cellars and his dad Chris for all of the help and support he has given him to achieve this success. Yet another great performance came from runner up Nathan Batten from Bermagui with a score of 152 playing off a handicap of plus 1.
The B Grade Gross champion was Robert Beuzeville; General Manager of Bermagui Country Club with 170.
After an extremely successful week Bermagui Country Club Men’s and Ladies Golf committees extended a big “thank you” to all of the sponsors for the Week of Golf – we appreciate the support provided for this annual event and hope that we can continue our excellent relationship. Events like this are very important for the businesses in Bermagui township.

Bermagui Legends Pro-Am. Here is your opportunity to play with a PGA Legend. On Monday 23rd October and Tuesday 24th October Bermagui will be hosting a round of the PGA Legends Tour. Shotgun starts on both days. There are great prizes to be won by men and lady amateurs. Entry forms available from the Bermagui Country Club office or website.

Bermagui Social Golfers
Sunday we played the Tri Nations Competition between Eden, Bega, and Bermagui Social Golfers at the Tathra Beach Golf Course. There was 42 players divided into pairs to play a 2 man ambrose for each of the towns. The total shots of the five best teams from each town determined the winner of the trophy.
After tallying the totals Bermagui beat Bega with Eden 3rd so Bermagui Social Golf will go on the trophy this year. The overall winning team was Zac Needs and Ray Williams from Bega. NTP winners on the 3rd was Len Murphy from Bermagui and on the 9th was Ken Needs from Bega. Thank you to Len Murphy, Graeme Gunn, and Charlie Bennett for cooking breakfast and lunch. The sausages, chops and bacon were donated by Zak Needs, owner/operator of the Bermagui Food Emporium and the salads were donated by the Bennett family. Our bus driver Graeme 'Spud' Struthers also must be thanked.
The success of the day is only possible because of the work done by the Captains, Charlie Miles from Eden, Greg Honess deputising for Bega's President, and Graeme 'Fuhrer' Struthers from Bermagui and the committees. Tuross Head Men
As well as a stableford competition Tuross Head golfers also competed in a novelty 6 x 6 x6 four person team event last Saturday. The winner of the single stableford round was Peter McRae with a score of 41 points. Stephen Walker with 38 points beat Stephen Crossling on a countback for second spot and Steve Johnston filled the remaining placing with 37 points.
The winner team of the novelty competition was Peter McRae, Steve Swanbury, Stephen Crossling and Andrew Gordon with a combination of 96 points. Nearest the pins were won by A grade golfer Tony Russell on the 4th hole with 3.25m. Ian Wark was closest on the 6th with 6.65m and Troy Kingdom was best on the 7th with 3.2m.
B grade player Bruce Martin won the 4th hole with 2.36m. Peter Hogan the 6th with 7.08m and Greg Smith the 7th with 6.6m. Peter McRae was awarded the 4th hole with 1.98m in the C grade division. Graeme Bell was the best on the 6th with 2.18m and Andrew Gordon won the 7th hole with 6.69m.
Thursday's 18-hole stableford medley competition was won by Grahame Moore with 41 points ahead of Chris Wratten 40 points, Jeanette Miller 40 and Ian Miller 38. Closest to the pins were awarded to Ian Miller on the 4th with 3.5m, Glen Shearer on the 6th with 1.5m and Chris Wratten on the 7th with 2.3m.
