Club Dalmeny bowls report

Labour Day holiday Monday saw a full green of 42 bowlers in sunny but stable windy conditions. Secret ends decided the winners on rink 8 in Chef Keith, Chris Silver-Jones and Punter Alan from the runners-up in a 3-way count-back on 7 in Snoopy Leigh, Par Wain and Ashley Boot-Print.

No resting toucher nor was the $309 jackpot won. Wrong bias sinners included Sienna Don and the Macedonian Illya and the raffle prizes went to Par Budin, Gusty Ray, Tony Dater and Account Gourley. Our condolences go to Peter Bashford aka Hit-holden and his family on the passing of his wife.

The overcast skies looked threatening but only produced a few spots of badly needed rain for the 29 Thursday bowlers where once again the lowest winning margin deciding the winners on rink 2 in a swinging John Verr-heaven, Ex.PM Neil and Graham or Brett from the runners-up on 4 in Bluey Ralph and the gospellers Anne and Bob. The first of many resting touchers was recorded by Marg Ponder but the $324 jackpot was not won. Punter Alan and Ex.PM Neil were the wrong bias sinners while the raffle winners were Mayor Brian, Anne and Bob, Cobber Dudley, Ralphie and the Goose.

Jeff Loudon has “just” been seen back in town and Jack Harris is in respite and if you’re not visiting (which would cheer them up) we hope to see them both back with us soon.

The final of the mixed pairs championship was between two evenly matched teams of Marg Laker and Graham or Brett and the Smiths (Jones) Jan and Bernie. After a fairly even start the scores were tied 4-all after 6 ends, 5-all after 8 and 8-all after 13 ends before Marg and Brett shot away to lead 13/8 after 15 ends. the scores were evened up again to 13-all at 18 and 17-all after 23. Jan and Bernie had a game-winning 4 on the last end after being 1-down, to be 21/18 worthy winners of the mixed pairs over their worthy runners-up in Marg and Brett. Well done by everyone throughout the early rounds and in the finals.

Twilight bowls will begin at 5.30pm on Friday and it will be great to see everyone over the age of 12 joining in two hours of social fun bowls. The much appreciated backing of the men’s bowls committee allows cost to be contained at $10 per game with increased prize-money ($20 winners, $10 runners-up) each week and end-of season trophies plus prize-money to the winner and runner-up of the Twilight Bowler of 2017-18 season competition based on 1 point for playing plus 2 points for a win. Be there or miss out on the fun.
