It was also announced this week that the Tuross Men’s Shed received a $5000 grant on its fifth anniversary.

Senator Fiona Nash said the funding at Narooma and Quaama would go towards an upright gas stove with gas burners and a refrigerator as well as provide materials and labour to stabilise and upgrade the property.

The Narooma Men’s Shed only recently opened its new kitchen area and so the new stove and fridge are eagerly awaited.

“Living in rural NSW, I know how important the Men’s Shed is for providing men with activities and support and for fostering strong community ties,” Senator Nash said.

“This funding round helps Men’s Sheds to buy tools and equipment, support community projects and training, maintain or develop their buildings, or create local activities to improve men’s health.

“I aim to help build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and investing in Men’s Shed helps do that.

“These Men’s Sheds serve their members and offer wood and metalwork, working with glass, photography, lapidary, forge work, social gatherings and community and health programs.

Members have an opportunity to pass their skills to others, learn new things, or just catch up regularly with other men in the community for a chat and a cup of tea.”

This grant funding is part of the $5.1 million the Federal Government has provided to the Australian Men’s Shed Association through to 2018-19 to support the national network of Men’s Sheds.
