At Club Narooma when the bar staff were recently asked “What happened to those Christmas whales that were on the fence outside?” – the quick reply was, “They had gone south with the others”.

After some research, I found that the answer that the blue whales had gone south was in fact correct.
Yes after nearly three months of providing a unique Christmas feel to Narooma over the Christmas period, all the whales took their leave and returned south to the Narooma Men’s Shed in Glasshouse Rocks Road.
This Christmas will be the fifth year the whales have made this trip. The whales are only made possible through the work of the Narooma Men’s Shed and the support of local businesses and individuals.
Shed members John Gerrard, Rob Atkinson and Steve McGourty with others are repairing and repainting the whales so that they are ready to be back on display in November.
One of the better stories I heard about the whales this year was, that one enterprising organisation added solar lights to one of the blue Christmas whales.
A tour bus filled with Asian visitors were so impressed, that they stopped their bus and did the team photo in front of the flashing lights.
The Narooma Men’s Shed would welcome any new ideas regarding how to assist the township with Christmas items. So get in contact with Steve on 4476 3492 or John on 4476 8096.
