The 22-year-old man was waterskiing behind his father’s boat on Tuross Lake, near Bodalla, about 11.30am today (Sunday 31 March 2013), when he fell into the water.
He was then struck by a fibreglass runabout – which was being skippered by an unlicensed 15-year-old boy – travelling in the opposite direction.
The victim sustained head injuries after being hit by the boat’s propeller.
Police from Marine Area Command and NSW Ambulance Paramedics responded quickly to the incident.
The injured man was taken to Moruya Hospital but died a short time later.
MAC detectives will assist local police with their inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A crime scene has been secured and the runabout seized for forensic examination.
The teenage boy is yet to be formally interviewed by police and no charges have been laid at this stage.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is urged to contact the Marine Area Command, Far South Coast Police, or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
