And that is: “Don’t forget your bungs!”
The group of fisherman from the Sydney area competing in the Canberra Yellowfin Tournament put their boat in at daybreak but almost immediately realised they had forgotten the bungs as water quickly started pouring in from the back of the vessel.
The skipper got it back to the boat ramp pontoon but before the trailer could be brought back around the vessel had sunk.
Bystanders suggested they should have just powered out of the harbour to get the vessel up on a plane allowing the water to drain out while someone on land could find the bungs.
One of the boaters involved however said there that many boats launching at the time there was no room to do anything but tie up to the pontoon.
Darren Clark of Narooma Cranes, who is always on hand when there is a car or boat accident to clean things up, was brought in for the salvage.
Participants in the 31st Annual Canberra Yellowfin Tournament, held in Bermagui over the weekend enjoyed three days of good weather conditions at sea and fine hospitality on shore. In all 107 boats and 375 anglers took part.
Anglers weighed in eight yellowfin tuna, five southern bluefin tuna, one mako shark and one blue shark.
