WWII veteran, 101-year-old Jack Emmott of Bodalla passed away on Monday, May 28 with his wife of 68 years, Marion by his side.

Jack was born in 1913 in Moruya where his father ran the general store, which later became known as Emmott’s Store where Harris Scarfe in Moruya now stands.
He was 10-years-old when the family bought Riverview farm at Bodalla. He left school in 1927 and started working on the farm.
Jack joined the army in 1941 and was based at Goulburn, and it was there that he met his future wife Marion.
By 1945, Jack was in Borneo and while there his father became extremely ill and Jack applied for and obtained compassionate leave.
The day that Jack returned to Australia, Japan surrendered and peace was declared.
Marion and Jack married on January 26, 1946 and had three children, Julie, Jan and John.
Jack was the chairman of Bodalla Co-Operative Cheese Society from 1946 until 1983.
Jack’s funeral is at All Saint’s Anglican Church Bodalla at 2pm on Thursday, June 5.
