Having achieved phenomenal success in the beach sprint and flags events throughout last season, Justin was awarded first place at both the State and National Championships. Justin has now set his sights to compete on French soil… or should we say sand?
The Dalmeny Deviates and the Narooma Surf Club are supporting the "100 Club Raffle" fundraiser to help Justin with costs relating to his overseas travel. The raffle is to be drawn this Friday. A maximum of 100 tickets have been printed and $50 earns you a ticket in the "100 Club". First prize is a cool $2,000, second prize is a Narooma Golf Club golf membership and third prize is a weekend in a cabin at Islandview Caravan Park.
There are limited tickets still available, contact Fleur Constable for your chance to win, before Friday on 0418 768 193.
Far South Coast Branch AGM
The annual general meeting for the Surf Life Saving Far South Coast Branch was held at Narooma over the weekend. It doesn't seem long ago that many of these faces were together in the same room for the presentation evening at Pambula.
Prior to the AGM, the branch Surf Sports meeting was held to discuss changes in junior and senior competition, new safety specifications and reviews. Decisions were made as to when and where this season's carnivals will be held and ways to improve our local carnival water safety and efficiency issues.
Another exciting summer is ahead
The next Narooma SLSC committee meeting is on this Sunday at 4pm, where we will begin to set dates for the registration day and work out logistics to begin the 2014/15 season. All members welcome to attend.
O'Brien's Hotel - Friday fundraising raffles
The Narooma Surf Club is more than grateful for the generous sponsorship of O'Brien's Hotel over the last eight years. In those years there has been a tireless crew of club members who religiously attend the bottom pub each Friday for 'The Raffles'. It would be nice if we expanded that group of regulars to other members within our club, to not only support O'Brien's Hotel, but to lessen the burden on our 'Raffle Crew'. If only to have a few fresh faces to chew the fat with!
A suggestion has been raised to organise a 'roster'. That way your 'commitment' isn't required every week but ensures that there is always a reliable bunch of Surf Club members at the Surf Club raffle. If you have a group of mates within the club, friends you patrol with or perhaps a group of Nipper mums or dads, let us know who you are so we can organise a roster - ideally six groups would make it a six week rotation. You might even come home with a prize.
Summer Safety Expo
Sunday, September 28
LAST year's inaugural Summer Safety Expo was a huge success winning 'Community Event of the Year 2013'. Held at the Narooma Rotary Market, volunteers from organisations such as the Narooma Rural Fire Brigade, Fire & Rescue NSW, Narooma Marine Rescue and of course Narooma Surf Life Saving Club each have a stand, spreading the summer safety message.
We need anyone and everyone available to assist at this year's stand to please contact naroomaslsc@gmail.com so we can organise a rotation of sorts. Dress in club colours, your patrol uniform or Nippers gear. Make it a fun morning at the markets, the Fire Service's Smoke House is a hit with the kids, school holiday fun.
If you have any ideas to make our stand fun and educational - please let us know!

What is your name?
Leichelle Anne McCaughtrie
What is your involvement / role within the club?
It's my job to keep all our Nippers looking good on the beach in club uniforms.
When did you first join Narooma Surf Club?
We joined as a family in 2010, I think there were only about 14 Nippers back then.
What is it that brings you back each season?
We love the beach and spend a lot of time in and around the ocean, so it's important that our kids learn surf safety skills. We have made some great friends and enjoy our Sunday mornings on the beach and travelling away to carnivals camping with the other families.

Preferably cooked by someone else.

My mustard yellow Sigma station wagon.
If you had an open plane ticket to anywhere, where would you go?

Macca after curry night at Lynches.

Macca and Troy Beecham making their debut appearance in the flag sprints at last year’s Narooma carnival.
If you could be an animal what would it be?
Probably a sloth, they're never in a hurry.

Ben Bate
