Wednesday, February 4: Another Wednesday with 54 bowlers nominated for the afternoon social bowls, really great to see. The day was another Maggsy Draw Day, with the winners being determined by the highest shot margin over five mystery ends.
The side to achieve that task comprised Leigh Falkiner, Larry Hardingham, and Ron Tasker, with a 12-shot margin over the five mystery ends.
The second-placed side (a side I will not barrack for again, except their skip, ‘cause they beat my mob) were The Duck, Peter McKay and John Child, with 11 shots scored over the mystery ends.
On a day that was difficult to get your grass right, let alone achieve a resting toucher, that prize went to Larry Hardingham with his resting toucher at 1445hrs.
Saturday, February 7: With the pennant season now upon us our Saturday social bowlers numbers will drop, though if we can have 16 or a few more bowlers each week that will be great. There were four rinks of pairs played on the day, with the winners being Don Williams and Peter McKay, a few too many shots over Rolly Parnell and Garry Evans, a few too many shots short.
Runners-up were Kevin Goodridge and Mo Hinds 22 shots, over Allan Simpson and Dennis Maggs 21, a real close game indeed. Next Saturday (February 14) there will be a pennant match played at Narooma and social bowls will still be played.
Sunday, February 8: On a rather hot humid afternoon only eight bowlers, four ladies and four gentlemen I believe, braved the conditions. So the girls played the boys with the girls, Clare Cork, Aurilia Robinson, Bev Kellerman and Gail Riely, defeating the boys, Jeff Thompson, Leo Winter, Ken Burrows and Tony Gors, 23 great shots to 18.
Pennant results: Narooma Grade 4 team travelled to Moruya for the first match of the 2015 season. Unfortunately though, Moruya defeated Narooma by two rinks to one.
Club major singles: Bowlers having had wins to the present time, two wins each to John Spees and Barry Lymbery, and one win each to John Downie, Jay Breust, Rod Holman, Paul Read, Peter Robson, Keith Pickett, and Ray Gale. Well done to all winners and best of luck in your remaining matches.
Until next time, Ditch Rink and Jaik.
Narooma Women’s Bowls
There was only a small gathering for social bowls last Tuesday as players were competing in district pairs and others were involved in novice singles.
Prize for the day went to Betty Greenshields and Aileen Short (skip) after defeating Heather McGourty and Merrie Downie (skip) in the last few ends. Heather McGourty won this week's raffle, provided by Rapley's Midtown Meats. Happy Birthday and best wishes to Margaret Naylor for this Saturday, which is also Valentine's Day. Have a great day.
In Novice Singles, final games were played last Tuesday. Aurelia Robinson won against Pam Grant, and Clare Cork defeated Coral Read. Our Novice Singles champion for 2015 is Carol Rogerson, undefeated and a tally of eight points. Clare Cork and Aurelia Robinson won two games and four points each, Clare earning runner-up on a countback. Congratulations Carol on your well-deserved win and to Clare for a great effort. Thanks to all contestants for their participation and good bowls.
For Friday mixed bowls, the weather was quite steamy for those who played triples and pairs. Yet it was a most enjoyable social afternoon with a very happy Betty Greenshields, Greg Riley and Gail Riley (skip) collecting the winners prize with the most shots up after their game against Sue Wales, Ken Burrows and Dawn Kenny (skip).
Diary
Major Singles starts tomorrow (Thursday) with round two on Sunday - good bowling to all. The entry sheet for the ladies club pairs is on the notice board. Also, life will become a lot busier with the commencement of pennant season next Thursday. Best wishes to our teams.

Again, we had only a small field this week with ladies away playing district events, or suffering illness.
Lowest winning margin was selected by Carl with Gail Farrell, Pat Cameron and Maureen McKenzie coming out the winners. Pipped at the post was Barbara Pearce’s team, who unfortunately lost the day by getting a seven on the last end.
The Spider was won by Eileen Lavis, with Lois McGregor, Anne Luke and Kay Thurlow winning the raffles. The lucky number draw was won by Barbara Pearce and Raye Fayle. There were no resting touchers and our only birthday girl for this week is Pat Prus. News on Pat Barklem has come through, she has got through her operation successfully, and is now on the slow road to recovery and hopefully back onto the greens sometime in the near future.
Club Dalmney Twilight Bowls
Sixteen players took to the greens this week with a notable absentee being J McDougall (might have something to do with the charity shield being run this week between St George and The Rabbitos!)
Winners on the night were the team of G Rogers and R Dunk with runners-up being P Bashford and M Turner, and no resting toucher on the night.
