Eurobodalla Shire Council traffic committee chairman Neil Burnside said the RMS was considering providing a right-hand turning bay, but this would require the widening of the highway on the approach to the bridge, which it could do as it owned the adjacent land.
And while the highway was the responsibility of the RMS, council had been involved in discussions. Any changes to Centenary Drive, such as making it one-way only, would also require RMS approval, he said.
Clr Burnside said Bega MP Andrew Constance had made representations to the Roads Minister on a turning bay onto Centenary Drive.
Meanwhile, planning for the pedestrian underpass under Narooma Bridge continues and the RMS has secured funding for that project.
