In news just in, NSW Fisheries says after less than a month the newly installed Fish Attracting Device (FAD) at Narooma has gone missing. “Please be advised that the Narooma FAD is now misssing with replacement to be undertaken shortly. The DPI website will be updated accordingly when the device is re-deployed,” the Fisheries FAD website reads. Narooma Bowling Club Fishing Club president Dave Clark said it did not take long to disappear and was probably the same tanker that cleaned up a local commercial fisherman’s lobster pots.

Now to some of the fishing reports and the highlight has to be Narooma resident Ian “Hoots” Cowie cross-border raid onto Wallaga Lake where on Day 1 of his fishing holiday, he landed a great 80cm jewfish on soft plastics. Apparently all of Bermagui was talking about it!
Narooma charter skipper Nick Cowley on Monday had a bit of fish on Wagonga Inlet before the busy holiday fishing season. He managed 10 nice bream on the surface, a couple solid whiting on the flats and also a couple flatties on plastics also. He also fished Brogo Dam on Saturday afternoon and together with a mate managed half a dozen bass each.
There have also been some good whiting on the flats down Bermagui way with Bermagui Bait & Tackle suggesting replacing the front treble on hard body surface poppers with assist hooks, which increases hook up rates and action.
Out wide, Bermagui Bait & Tackle reports that the game fishing scene has been a bit slow but could pick up any moment with warmer currents on the way.
The kingfish remain fickle at Montague Island with plenty of juveniles or “rats” but bigger fish only showing up every other day. Skipper Nick was at the island yesterday and reported it was a bit a slow again with one legal kingfish and lots of seals. But the water was 20 degrees and the fishing could only get better!
