Fishing report Far South Coast NSW | Nov. 2

Snapper seem to be the go-to reef fish at the moment but catches seem to be best the further north you go.

Local Narooma angler Nils Torsvik got his beaut 67cm, 3.8kg snapper caught off Tuross Head on bait last week.

Benny Bolton at Charter Fish Narooma reported that the kingfish made an appearance at Montague island on Friday afternoon as his clients managed over a dozen legal kingfish and quite a few rats also!

“They were caught mainly on surface poppers and stick baits which made for good fun. Hopefully they hang around with the water temp at 17 and blue water it's looking good for an early season!”

There was one report of a couple of albacore at The Kink last week, but also of a large great white shark at Montague Island and also a smaller 3m shark at 1080 Beach, Mystery Bay on Sunday. So be careful out there!

Andy Caves from Bermagui meanwhile had a cracking bass session fishing with good mate “Rooster”.  He got his PB wild river bass with a few beasts on top water lures. They managed three bass over the magical 50cm mark and 20 or so fish from 40-48cm. “Soo stoked!!!”

While the boys obviously are reluctant to reveal their spot, those going after the bass can try rivers such as Tuross or Bega rivers, while Brogo Dam is also an excellent option but be prepared to search out the water for fish.

On the beaches, we received a report of some cracking big salmon at Handkerchief Beach south of Narooma on Monday with fish taking pilchards and metal slices.

NSGFC report – A big welcome back to John and Hilary Swinhoe, our members from the UK . They are just here for a short visit but still had time for a bit of fishing on Saturday , with Hilary providing the burly and John catching some nice snapper. They were also lucky to spot a couple of whales.

Again our end-of-the-month eat in was a great success with some delicious egg and bacon rolls thanks to the two gentlemen on the barbecue.

I am still looking for volunteers for the Canteen weekend at the end of this month November 26-27, please call me on 0412 100 596 or Chris Hemmingsen on 0417 087 673

Good luck to the boys heading to Wee Jasper this morning,  hope you get rid of some of those pesky carp and have some fun at the same time.

As usual the Narooma Sport and Game Fishing Club rooms, situated on the inlet near the restaurants, will be open for fish stories, drinks and snacks from 4pm till 9pm on Friday. Visitors are most welcome to come along and have a chat with the members. – Jan Hemmingsen
