Cool conditions greeted trainers and punters at the site on Monday morning ahead of the opening race at 1.04pm.
Moruya Jockey Club manager Brian Cowden said he expected a big crowd through the gates for the first meet of the new year.
“It’s a perfect day for racing,” he said.
“The weather is a bit too cool for the beach, so I think people will pack their bags and head out to the races, where it will be a lovely 24 degrees.
“We have an excellent field for the Narooma Cup, as well as some other really strong races across the afternoon, so it should be a good day.”
The eight race program starts at 1.04pm, with the Narooma Cup at 4.44pm.
